Today I wanted to share a Korean BBQ dipping sauce, Ssamjang (korean spicy condiment) recipe that is super easy to make yet adds so much flavor to your perfect bite with your Korean BBQ meal or Korean pork belly lettuce wrap.
Whenever there is grilled meat in a Korean meal, like Bulgogi, Pork belly, Galbi, Ssamjang is always the dipping sauce that can't be missed on a table.
You can always buy pre-made ssamjang from a Korean grocery store or order online from Amazon. I usually have the pre-made ones from a grocery store in my fridge but being able to make it from scratch always comes in handy.
Ssam in Korean means a 'wrap'. It normally indicates a dish where you wrap the meat and rice with a leafy vegetable like lettuce. Jang in Korean means 'condiment'. So Ssam Jang is the condiment that goes in any type of 'ssam'.
Just like you need ketchup for french fries, you need Ssamjang for korean meat dish!
And this was how our meal looked like with Ssamjang! Normally bell peppers are not part of a traditional Ssam meal but to make the meal healthier, I've added few more vegetables.
